Mind, Body, Soul…Clean!

Cleaning isn’t sexy! It isn’t pretty, adorable, or even cute. As a matter of fact, it is downright disgusting, gross, and many times reprehensible. But cleaning is a necessity of life almost as much of a necessity as food, water, and sunlight. Think about that. How do you feel when your house or office is clean? Do you feel better, stronger, confident? Is your mind clearer? Are your thoughts more focused? Are your actions more meaningful? Do you notice a difference? Many say YES!

The positive connection between a clean home or office and your overall wellbeing is becoming more evident every day with benefits demonstrated in how we act, what we do and how we feel. So, isn’t it in our best interest to take the calamity of cleaning seriously? Maybe even take it a step further to like it, dare we say even fall in love with it?

Recently, Indiana University conducted a study that found a correlation between a clean home and physical fitness. In short, researchers found that participants with cleaner homes exercised more. Makes sense, right? Cleaning your home gives you a sense of accomplishment. Gives you a sense of starting the day fresh, a clean space to let your mind move onto the next task with more energy, more focus and more rewards.

To help, we want to remind you of a few more reasons to keep your home and office clean. Though cleaning is quite universal in its task, find a regimen that works for you, that benefits you the most and helps create a Zen of balance in your mind, body, and soul.

  1. Reduce the spread of germs – this is probably one of the most important health benefits of keeping a clean home or office space. Dust mites, pet dander and mold are all lurking around you. Make sure you are cleaning, wiping, dusting areas, and vacuuming frequently. This is of great importance to reduce the chance of allergic or asthmatic reactions and maintain good air quality.
  2. Lower stress and fatigue – having a clean, organized space helps reduce stress and fatigue. It’s that simple. The more clutter, the harder to clean, which leads to increased stress and the feeling of being tired. It’s a chain reaction of negative vibes. Cleaning can reverse that vibe. Remember: clean space, clearer mind, less stress, more accomplishments – see that?
  3. Keep unwanted pests away – it is your space…claim it and don’t share it with bugs or rodents. Pests are attracted to dirty spaces and can spread bacteria, germs and parasites that can negatively affect your body. Do the math! Regular cleaning + keeping an organized space = a happier, healthier you!

So, can you create a cleaning schedule that works for you? A schedule that keeps you healthier and you might learn to love? Maybe. Like any relationship, it needs work and takes time.  Make cleaning fun, enjoyable, and make it about you by combining cleaning with other tasks you might enjoy. Play music while you clean and feel free to dance around with the vacuum (nod to Ms. Doubtfire). Make it a game by timing yourself to see how quickly you can finish giving the house a good clean. At the end of the day, cleaning is a necessity, so take a moment to find what works best for you and the space around you.
